Adopt A Rider

According to the United States Census Bureau Report, there are over 100,000 residents with disabilities living within the greater New York metropolitan area. In order to become self sufficient to the greatest extent possible, these people require help.

Individuals with Disabilities

Pal-O-Mine Equestrian, Inc. was founded to answer this need. Its mission is to provide a comprehensive therapeutic equine program using horses to facilitate growth, learning and healing.  Our population includes children and adults with disabilities, those who have been abused or neglected, war veterans and the economically compromised.

Making Strides
It has long been established that therapeutic riding represents an effective means of treating the those with disabilities by promoting independence, socialization skills, community integration, mobility, confidence, and self-esteem. Gains can be observed in motor functioning, gait, conceptual imaging, sensory integration, cortical organization, respiration, circulation, posture and balance.

All of Pal-O-Mine's current students (three hundred plus) are making strides towards becoming more independent.

Funds for Programs
Pal-O-Mine is atypical of not-for-profit organizations: currently we have a staff of 6 full time staff and 13 part time contractors. There are no professional fundraisers on staff. There are no public relations people on staff. There is no bureaucracy. Pal-O-Mine depends almost exclusively on volunteers, and funds donated go directly to support programs that help people with disabilities.

Unfortunately, teaching equestrian skills to individuals with disabilities is an expensive proposition, and many of our clients do not have sufficient means to pay for therapeutic riding. That's why our Adopt-A-Rider Program is so critical to our mission, we never want to be placed in the position of having to deny our services to someone in need!

We Need Your Help!
Please help us fulfill our mission by helping to fund riding lessons for a deserving individual. A donation of $2500 provides complete support (lessons and competitions) for one rider for an entire year. A donation of $600 provides riding lessons for one rider for a single semester, 12 lessons. Naturally, we are most grateful for any gift to offset riding lesson fees! Please click on our Adopt-A-Horse Program for additional options.

To arrange a visit to our facility and witness personally the benefits of therapeutic riding, please call 631-348-1389 to make an appointment. Thank you for your consideration.
