Opportunities Abound, PT, P.C. is an outpatient rehabilitation clinic designed to assist individuals with neurological disorders to reach their optimal level of function. Our center provides therapy services for physically and cognitively challenged individuals. Licensed physical, occupational and speech therapists use horses (hippotherapy) and the fully accessible stable setting to accomplish specific treatment goals. A traditional therapy clinic is also utilized for maximum results.

The staff at Opportunities Abound, PT, P.C. has extensive experience. Our therapists are licensed with New York State and registered with the American Hippotherapy Association(AHA). Our equine professionals are specially trained. We are located at Pal-O-Mine Equestrian, Inc. which is a member center of the North American Riding for the Handicapped Association.

Hippotherapy, "treatment with the help of the horse", is administered by a licensed health care professional to treat children and adults with mild to severe movement disorders. The patient is positioned on and actively responds to the movement of the therapy horse. The therapist directs the movement of the horse, analyzes the patient’s response and adjusts the treatment accordingly.

Hippotherapy provides physical and psychological benefits with the primary goal of improving posture, balance, mobility and function. The physical benefits of hippotherapy include:
  • Pelvic mobilization
  • Increase/decrease abnormal muscle tone
  • Facilitation of righting and equilibrium reactions
  • Strengthening of postural musculature
  • Stretching of selected muscles
  • Endurance training
  • Provides sensory input for patients with sensory integration difficulties
  Opportunities, Inc. Therapy Room
Therapy sessions are individualized and specially trained horses are selected based upon the patient’s disability. Trained staff members assist the therapist during each treatment session. We provide half hour therapy sessions consisting of activities performed both on and off the horse for functional carry over.

Hippotherapy has been proven effective in treating the following diagnosis but is not limited to:
  • Cerebral Palsy
  • Developmental Delay
  • Sensory Integration Disorders
  • Cerebral Vascular Accident
  • Traumatic Brain Injury
  • Autism
  • Spina Bifida
Opportunities Abound, PT, P.C. offers a full time therapy program, year round services with payment options. An aquatics program is planned for summer of 2006 as well.
